Vol 1 No. 2 Newsletter May 2004
My grandfather was a life-long subscriber to National Geographic (he had every issue). He loved to share with his grandchildren the stories and pictures of the far-off places revealed on those pages. He'd capture our imagination with tales of mysterious cultures, beautiful landscapes and the intriguing histories of mankind.

And he loved the maps. He would pour over the details of every map National Geographic sent his way. His interest included the political divisions and the histories which they represented, but he was especially drawn to the geology.

Though he highly valued education, my grandfather did not have the opportunity to pursue his own. That is, not until he was 70 years old and enrolled in Pasadena City College as a first step toward fulfilling his dream to become a geologist. He never made it, but it is one of the joys of my life that at the same time I was taking high school algebra, he was doing the same in college.

My grandfather's fascination with maps was passed on to me. An atlas or a globe will keep me occupied for hours. Whenever my wife and I travel, we do so with a pile of maps. This month we will be flying off to Maui to celebrate 25 years of marriage. We already have the maps!

We are pleased to offer beautiful gemstone globes to our customers. The globes can be ordered with oceans made from mother-of-pearl, jasper, jade, turquoise, onyx, howlite or amber. Each nation is hand-cut from stones native to that country. Both tabletop and floor models are available. The handcrafted globes are of excellent quality and include a certification of conformance to ISO 9002 or 9001 standards. Framed gemstone maps are also available.

We also offer beautiful antique globe reproductions, which are based on the works of Gerardus Mercator, Jodocus Hondius I, and Didier Robert de Vaugondy. These globes bring to any home or office the rich tradition of the art and science of cartography.
GiftsOfDistinction.com offers many other fine gifts including carousel horses, porcelain vases, pottery water sculptures, heirloom games, model ships, Porter music boxes, Byzantine mosaic jewelry and photo frames, delicate pill boxes and much more.

I will do my best to make our newsletters entertaining while telling you a little bit about our products. If you would like to be removed from this mailing list, please reply to this email with the word "REMOVE" in the subject line.
